A lot can be determined about you when looking at your daily habits. A value is a person’s principle or standards of behavior determining what is important in their life. A habit is a regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. You may say you value your dental health, but when looking at your regular tendencies or practices, these are what truly determine what you value the most.
When looking into this concept a bit further we can compare other habits in life for contrast. For example, if you are in the habit of exercising three times a week, it is evident that you value your physical health. If you are in the habit of sorting your recyclables each day, it is evident that you value taking care of your environment and reducing and reusing.
Can this concept apply to your dental health and your teeth? It sure can! What do your dental habits say about how much you value your dental health? Let’s look at a few habits that can determine if you value your dental health.
- Do you brush your teeth at least twice a day? If you do, this is a good indicator that you value your dental health.
- Do you floss your teeth at least one time per day? If you do, this is a good indicator that you value your dental health.
- Do you visit your dentist twice per year for a professional cleaning and checkup? If you do, this is a good indicator that you value your dental health.
If you answered “yes” to all of these questions it is fairly safe to say that you do value your dental health through your dental habits. If you couldn’t answer “yes” to all of these, don’t get discouraged. Choosing to be consistent involves first identifying your value and then converting them into a decision-making process that forms behaviors that are second nature, and it eventually becomes a habit.
